Hornets – Very Dangerous Pests

Many people often think that hornets are nothing but wasps. Unfortunately this is just a misunderstanding. Though wasps and hornets look alike and are from the same family there are many differences between them. Hornets are type of wasps. Hornets are rounder and fatter than wasps, but is difficult sometimes to identify them correctly. The real danger with hornets is their disposition. They are more aggressive than wasps.

Worker hornets are smaller than the queen, measuring between 18-25mm. Hornets are not attracted  by human food. They feed on sap and live insects. Hornets generally sting only when provoked, unfortunately even a single glance make them angry. Sometimes they even mobilize their entire nest to sting in defence.

A Sting of hornets is very painful to humans. They nest on the branches of trees, hollow places, attics and the sides of buildings. People who are allergic to the venom, have to be very careful with hornets. A single sting of a hornet to allergic people can be deadly. They transmit neurotoxin through a sting, if neurotoxin is transmitted in sufficient amounts then it can lead to death of anyone who is attacked by the hornet.
