Possums are commonly found causing destruction in and around garden area. They can eat away the plants, ransack the garbage and even eat away your pet’s food. Getting rid of possums is not easy but with a little tack you can control and restrict their entry into your garden area.
The best way you can control possums can be if you understand their habits. They will most often be found residing in wooden areas or somewhere close to where there is water. May be found hiding in tree crevices, decks, outbuilding etc. Possums are nocturnal creatures which mean they are only active at night; this may make it difficult for you to control them as they will be attacking your garden when you are asleep.
There are a number of ways from which you can get rid of possums, i.e by using possum’s repellent, trapping and fencing.
There are numerous types of possum’s repellents available in the market but these again are not fully effective in controlling the possums. Trapping is another method for controlling possums; possums are trapped and then relocated to some other wildlife area. Under no circumstances should they be killed as it is not permitted and not advisable also. Fruit baits are generally set in the trap for attracting possums. Electric fencing or woven wire fencing is sometimes used for restricting possums to enter the area. Fencing should be at least 4 and a half inch high.
Apart from this you can even try these methods in order to control possums;
1) Overgrown trees and plants should be trimmed regularly.
2) Clutters and debris should be removed from the garden area.
3) Fallen fruits from the trees should be cleared away from the ground.
4) Waste disposal containers should have a tight fitting lid on it every time.
5) No pet foods should be left open at night.
6) Block away any open entrance around the garden area so that the possums cannot enter at all.
